Paris Region, at the Heart of the Quantum Revolution

Paris Region, at the Heart of the Quantum Revolution

Paris Region is now establishing itself as the European hub for quantum technologies and holds a strategic position in this global race for innovation. This ecosystem of excellence owes nothing to chance. This is the result of a coherent strategic vision and targeted investments that make this region a key location for international companies in the sector. The Paris Region Council and its president Valérie Pécresse are committed to continuing this momentum.

A structured and ambitious ecosystem with 80% of quantum research conducted between Paris, Saclay, and Grenoble...

"80% of French quantum research is carried out between Paris, Saclay and Grenoble", said Alexandra Dublanche, Paris Region Vice-President in charge of economic development.

This exceptional concentration is organized around the QuanTiP network - Quantum Technologies in Paris Region, which is supported by the CNRS (Paris Region Villejuif Delegation) and has been designated as a Major Research and Innovation Domain (DIM) by the Region for a period of five years (2022-2026).

It brings together world-class academic teams and a pool of startups and companies in Paris Region in the competitive field of quantum technologies, with the specific aim of developing cutting-edge application technologies and accelerating their transfer to industrial applications through a dedicated commercialization program.

"The QuanTiP DIM is a tool supported by Paris Region to boost quantum technologies,", explained Hélène Perrin, Director of Research at the CNRS. "It brings together leading academic teams, some of which have founded start-ups in Paris Region, around four areas: sensors, simulation, quantum computing, and quantum communication. The Region has allocated a budget of 2.5 million euros to researchers, which is distributed through calls for projects."(source)

With the upcoming arrival of the Paris Region Quantum House (MDQ IDF), which has been awarded €1.2 million in France 2030 funding, the region will have significant leverage to accelerate the development and transfer of quantum technologies to industry.

State-of-the-art infrastructure and equipment

Paris Region is home to a unique concentration of quantum infrastructure:

  • • Two of the three national supercomputers at the GENCI
  • Hybrid high-performance computing facilities equipped with quantum computers from French startups Pasqal and Quandela which are located at the CEA's Very Large Computing Center (TGCC)
  • • A network of complementary sites between Paris-Saclay, Station F, and iXCampus in Saint-Germain-en-Laye with innovation spaces, laboratories, and shared facilities

This infrastructure, which is accessible to international companies, allows for a significant acceleration in the development of quantum applications in strategic sectors such as finance, pharmaceuticals, and energy.

A nurturing environment for quantum innovation

"Paris Region is a world leader, with top-notch laboratories and teams", emphasized Hélène Perrin. "Over the past 30 years, the scientific community has made enormous progress in manipulating individual quantum objects. Fundamental research is reaching maturity and a field of applications is now opening up before us. The Region is well aware of this: by funding QuanTiP, it is supporting world-leading research while bringing researchers closer to industry.."

  • 42 university laboratories
  • 153 research teams
  • 1239 researchers
  • 380 doctoral students

The Quantum Pack which was launched by the Region in 2020 has been recognized as a pioneering model for the development of quantum solutions in France and Europe. 14 experimental projects between startups and large companies have already been funded to the tune of over 8 million euros. This program funds international stakeholders who are already established in the region.

This early commitment has already paid off: the Paris-Saclay campus, where Nobel Prize winner in Physics Alain Aspect conducted his experiments, has seen the emergence of several quantum start-ups such as Pasqal and Quandela.

The Paris Region ecosystem offers foreign companies:

  • Privileged access to teams of highly qualified quantum engineers
  • Direct partnerships with leading research laboratories
  • Networking opportunities with key European and international initiatives
  • A suitable real estate environment, notably with the opening in 2026 of a first laboratory building for rent developed by Kadans Science Partners

A strategic location in Europe and the world

In a highly competitive international environment where giants such as IBM, Google, and Microsoft are investing heavily, Paris Region stands out for its ability to combine scientific excellence, entrepreneurial dynamism, and institutional support. This unique convergence makes Paris Region an essential hub for international companies who want to develop their quantum activities in Europe.

They have chosen Paris Region for quantum technology

As a region specializing in quantum computer manufacturing with four different technology platforms, the Paris Region ecosystem has a particular appetite for software component suppliers such as QCWare, Multiverse Computing, qruise, and ParityQC, which enable quantum computers to be programmed, optimized, and error-managed. International companies in this field will have access here to partners and talented mathematicians.

By setting up in Paris Region, foreign companies gain not only privileged access to the European market, but also to a mature quantum ecosystem that is at the forefront of global innovation. This is where the future of quantum computing, secure communications and next-generation sensors is now being built, offering a decisive competitive advantage to stakeholders who successfully position themselves.
